Winter Weather Update for Saturday

Overnight we had snow showers with up to 1 inch of snow in places. We still have hard packed snow in places and temperatures were down to -7’C overnight. have been working all night ploughing and salting the main snow clearance network covering all ‘A’ and ‘B’ roads which is around 800km of main roads across the East Riding.

All these routes are clear with some passable with care. Forecasters have indicated that road surface temperatures will not get above freezing today. The fleet of gritters are now working on the main snow clearance network and opening up access into isolated villages so there is a road in.

ERYC continue to use contracted farmers to get a road into some isolated villages which have become cut off with drifts upto 6 feet.

Staff are out removing snow from high use pedestrian areas, council car parks and replenishing salt bins.

ERYC continue to work excellently with the police and other blue light services and other agencies and we have a police officer in our control room again this morning so we have direct linkages and we can take action to support our communities.
