The Blooming Success Story of Fleurs de Lisa

Award winning florist, Fleurs de Lisa first hit the town five years ago and has been a blooming success since the day the doors opened.  Owner, studied floristry at and after working at a local florist for a few years decided to open her own shop.  “I won several awards over the years and starting my own seemed like the natural way to progress. I began by working from my loft at home and purely by word-of-mouth my business began to grow so I began to look for premises as the workload was becoming too much for the small space.  I had done several weddings and funerals before I had even thought of a name for my business,” she says.

Within 18 Months of opening, Fleurs de Lisa was crowned National Flower Shop of the Year. Over 500 florists across the UK entered to win the prestigious title.  Lisa says “We entered as a new shop hoping to learn new things and benefit from the process. When it was announced that we had won, I just couldn’t believe it.  It was, and still is a real honour. It also brought in customers from out of town and now our online service receives daily orders from people all over the world.  I believe it was hard work and great customer service that won Fleurs de Lisa the award.”

Following this, the BBC’s Escape to the Country contacted Lisa to see if she would star in an episode of the daytime property series. “Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. I was asked to demonstrate how new homeowners can save money by making their own floral arrangements.” The programme originally aired in 2007 but the shop has benefited from countless repeats both on terrestrial and satellite stations. “I don’t get told when it is being repeated but I am amazed at how often people come in saying they have just seen me on the television.”

In 2009, Lisa received the order all florists dream of.  “I received a phone call requesting a bouquet for the Her Majesty the Queen and some arrangements for the Royal transport for the opening of the Oncology unit at Castle Hill Hospital.  It was such an exciting experience knowing that I was making something that the Queen was going to hold and afterwards I received some great feedback from her staff to say the flowers were fantastic.” But you don’t have to be royalty to benefit from the quality and artistry of Fleurs de Lisa’s beautiful arrangements.

“Christmas orders are coming in thick and fast.  It’s our busiest and best time of the year but I am also amazed at the amount of wedding orders we have for the festive period this year.” Fleurs de Lisa are certainly revelling in the Christmas spirit, having just opened a new Christmas showroom full of decorative items and gift ideas.  The heart of Fleurs de Lisa is the glorious window display. “It makes me feel so proud of everything when I hear people commenting on the window.

More than often people come in just to tell us how beautiful it looks.” Lisa has a great creative team to work with. “My team members are not just incredibly talented florists – Jo also runs a tiara business and Rachael paints and models wedding dresses.  All of my staff are gifted creatively and share my passion for floristry excellence.”   So what is the secret to running a hugely successful floristry business? “It is exactly the same as what won us the award, hard work, a great team with impeccable customer service skills and a sheer sense of pride in absolutely everything that we do.”
