As part of a project to improve historic town centre lanes in Beverley,  Beverley Renaissance will take to the streets along with ’s safe communities team next Tuesday to tackle the current condition of Tindall Lane and remove graffiti.

The clean up of the lane, which acts as a thoroughfare from several popular car parks and the train station through to Wednesday Market, will start at 9.30 am on 26 October.

Councillor , chairman of Beverley Renaissance, said: “The graffiti in Tindall Lane was spotted during a recent community street survey championed by members of the Beverley renaissance town improvement action group.

“Beverley Renaissance has been working with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to great effect.  However, these acts of vandalism cost a lot of money which has to be found through local taxpayers.”

The Beverley Lanes project aims to bring back in to use the old historic gateways leading in to the town centre of Beverley, making them safe, well lit and clean places to pass through. The vision is also to make them interesting open spaces for public art. This vision has been met through the installation of Beverley students’ artwork on Narrow Racket Lane and more recently The Elwell Trail.

The project is a joint venture between Beverley Renaissance and Beverley Civic Society. The project has received a great amount of support from organisations across the town including Safer Communities, The Chamber of Trade and and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

To date the lanes project has brought about the installation of new street lighting, cleansing and graffiti clean up of several lanes in the town including Beaver Passage, Turner’s Yard and Golden Ball’s passage and incorporating the lanes into The Elwell Trail.

The brings together more than thirty private, voluntary and public sector organisations who aim to develop Beverley and its surrounding area for residents, visitors and businesses, whilst respecting the natural and built environment in order to cherish the town’s ancient past.

Membership of the town improvement group is open to the community and welcomes new members.  Please contact Dale Chapman, Renaissance co-ordinator, Beverley Partnership, on (01482) 391608 for more information.
