Beverley Firefighter to Step into the Ring

Beverley Firefighter Tony Stamp is much more used to the inside of a fire engine than the inside of a ring, but he’ll soon be swapping his uniform for a pair of boxing gloves for a Charity Evening on November 12th at the .

Tony will face Shaun Appleton in one of six fights that is being arranged to raise money for the Steve Prescott Foundation.  Tony admits that it’s been a long time since he last boxed, but he’s looking forward to the challenge.  The ‘Seconds Out’ boxing gym in Hull has become almost a second home as he prepares for the Big Night.

Fight Promoter Iain Spivey told .net

“This is not your regular boxing match, this is ‘white collar’ boxing. The guys who are stepping into the ring do not normally fight, but they are pulling on the gloves and training hard so they can take part.”

Tony’s colleagues from Humberside Fire and Rescue will be out in force on the event.  The firefighters will fill three tables at the KC Stadium.

The evening is a black-tie event, and includes a three-course meal and entertainment from a Comedian, as well as the six fights.  Tickets for the night can be purchased for £45. Group bookings of 10 will receive a discount of £5 per person.

The fights organised for the night of November 12th are:

Iain Spivey vs TBC
Paul Hannard vs Brendon Lewis
Tony Stamp vs Shaun Appleton
Dan Saunders vs Faz Balouchi
Jonny Marchant vs Adam Storch
Kos vs Carl Binny

All money raised will go to the charity run by former League star Steve Prescott, who despite being given only months to live when he was diagnosed with a rare form of terminal cancer in 2006, is continuing to raise thousands of pounds through a range of sporting activites to help beat the disease.  Since being awarded the MBE earlier this year, Steve has completed the London Marathon amongst his incredible achievements.

Later this month, Steve will be attempting to run 104 miles over 4 days, leaving the KC Stadium on 28th September and hopefully arriving at Old Trafford on 1st October, then running the equivalent of a marathon with supporters on the fifth day.
