Beverley Puppet Festival: Perfect for all the Family

Beverley’s fourth Puppet Festival opens in style at tomorrow night.

Todmorden’s Thingumajig are performing their acclaimed show A November Day, at Armstrongs (8pm), in association with the Imperial War Museum North.

It tells the story of a woman who discovers the story of her grandfather, a First World War veteran, and his unexpected encounter with a stray dog in the trenches. With the recent passing of the final Great War veterans, the play is a timely exploration of how we remember.

There’s a whole host of performances throughout the day on Saturday across various venues. These include children’s classics such as Pinocchio, The Ugly Duckling and Goldilocks, as well as The Rainbow Forest, a piece of pure fantasy, and a modern take on The Story of The Willow Pattern Plate.

Saturday night’s main event is The Seed Carriers, an adult-oriented, multi award-winning production at Armstrongs (8pm). It tells the tale of a race of small, human-like creatures harvested for the seeds they carry, and their attempts to survive the ruthless society in which they live.

There’s another full day of events on Sunday, including The Lost Forest, by Beverley’s very own Indigo Moon Theatre, and the event is wrapped up by Edinburgh Fringe Festival favourites The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre at Beverley Leisure Centre from 7.30pm.

Throughout the weekend there will also be numerous free outdoor performances.

Tickets for the events are available from Beverley Tourist Information Office, or on the door subject to availability.
