OWEN Project Members Benefit From Employment Workshops

Mature job seekers in the East Riding have received employment advice and interview experience from the Older Workers Employment Network Project (OWEN) and Hull & Humber KC Cares.

 

Members of KC’s human resources team joined representatives from Business in the Community (BITC) and Yorkshire Bank to help OWEN members get back into work.

The OWEN Project helps unemployed people aged 45 and over to find jobs and is funded by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The project helped over 600 people during 2009, providing them with advice, guidance and support to gain employment.

Seven members took part in the sessions at Kavanagh’s Tea Room, Coffee Shop and Restaurant, in Beverley, and learnt how to conduct job searches, complete application forms, improve CVs and experience a mock interview, with feedback provided on how they might improve.

Jackie Langley, project manager at OWEN, said: “Feedback about the sessions from our clients was really positive, they found the sessions to be extremely helpful as they provided important information on current job applications and interviewing techniques.

“The mock interviews were particularly useful, especially the detailed post-interview feedback, which gave really honest and straightforward advice. OWEN was really proud to be involved.”
