Talented Tiff Shows Hairdressing Expertise

Talented hairdressing student Tiffany Wilkinson has narrowly missed out on winning a prestigious competition despite only starting her course in January.

Tiffany, 20, from Hull, who is described as “a natural” by tutors came second in the regional heats of the hairdressing WorldSkills UK competition at Manchester College. The competition involved creating a gents and ladies look and she was placed second out of 40.

Tiffany said: “At first I was apprehensive when I saw the competition criteria but I thought I’d give it a go and took advice from my tutors Rachel and Pamela and emulate the look I produced for the in-house hairdressing competition.

“The competition itself was a fantastic day. I learnt a lot from it and it did my confidence a lot of good. It was a very prestigious competition to enter and it’ll look great on my CV.”

Tutor Rachel Carter said: “Tiff has made excellent progress since beginning the Level Two Hairdressing course and her achievements in the WorldSkills competition are made even more remarkable by the fact that she had done no hairdressing before she joined us in January.
“She has natural hair ability, a bubbly personality, endless enthusiasm and a definite statement look – a pink mohican.”

Pamela Rounce, who manages the Inspire Hair and Beauty salon at the College’s Beverley campus, said:

“Tiffany’s work was outstanding. All the other entries were along the same colour and style range and Tiffany produced a shocking pink mullet for the male and her female style was cerise pink and orange merging.

“As a result of her men’s work, the owner of the highly regarded Loaf salon in Sheffield has offered to train Tiffany in barbering.”

WorldSkills UK are quality assured skills competitions which are run annually and aim to encourage across the UK to excel in their vocational skill. For more information click here.
