HU17.net 12 Months Old Today!

.net celebrates its first birthday today – and we’re proud to have played our part in promoting our wonderful town in this thoroughly enjoyable first year.

Our goal remains simple – to chronicle local life, to promote the local community and their activities and portray the town in the positive light it so richly deserves.

The site is the brainchild – and obsession – of Molescroft resident Paul Smith, whose sheer enthusiasm has seen the site grow from little more than a hobby to a thriving community facility with people, clubs, societies and businesses at the very core of its existence.

Paul says: “Twelve months ago the first set of pictures, taken using a Limux Pocket camera of , were uploaded to the site and it is fair to say that back then it would have been hard to imagine where the site would go.

“Over the past 12 months, shops, pubs, and sport have been added to the website. Sport has proved to be very popular, with new and faster equipment purchased to allow better and high-quality sporting shots to be captured.

“Over time the pictures have proved be very popular and we are always looking for new angles to capture Beverley. Pictures have been taken from the roof of Beverley Minster and , and more recently a light aircraft.

“We have also uploaded a number of videos and more recently we have run interviews with people within the community or those who have a keen interest in Beverley.

“The number of visitors to the site has increased each and every month as more and more people in Beverley discover the site for the first time. In the past 12 months HU17.net has been visited 250,000 times!”

The past year has been great fun and hugely informative. Many thousands of people have been featured on HU17.net and we hope we have done our little bit to show just what a vibrant community Beverley is and what fantastic people live here.

And the future?

Paul continues: “The goal for 2010 is simple: to be Beverley’s number one web site by the end of the year.

“This appears to be a target that is being reached, although there are still six months left to run to achieve this.

“HU17.net has, in our view, helped show Beverley in a positive light. For a place so small, it is truly amazing to look back at what has happened, and what we have on the site is just a fraction of what has happened.

“More recently, the site has become more commercial as local businesses have put revenue into the website in return sponsorship slots. Sponsors are helping ensure the future of the website with much-needed financial support.

“Our commitment to Beverley remains the same: exclusive content, daily updates, free access and positive news about this great town of ours.”
