Beverley’s is throwing open its doors to the public this Sunday (June 13) to provide an entertaining and educational insight into how your food gets on to your table.

Visitors to the open day – which runs from 10am to 3pm – will also get to learn how farms work to protect local wildlife, as well as enjoy a variety of fun events aimed at all age groups.

Experts will be on hand to answer any questions on farm life, farm machinery and farms’ role in the environment.

With more and more becoming concerned about how their food is reared and grown, the staff at Molescroft Grange Farm – located between the Swinemoor roundabout and the Hayride – will show visitors just how responsible brings quality produce to the nation’s tables.

There will be displays and talks on beehive management, egg production and how to raise your own chickens, as well as the chance to see day-old chicks and the chickens themselves in their natual environment.

One of the higlights of the day will be two walks organised by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust – which start at 10.30am and 2pm – to show the variety of wildlife that flourishes on your doorstep.

As well as the educational aspect of the day, there’ll be welly wanging and a straw bale play area for children – weather permitting. Food and drinks will be on offer at the event, while anyone wishing to bring a picnic can sit back and relax in the hay field.

The open day is free of charge and there is disabled access to most areas.

If you can’t make it on the day, Molescroft Grange Farm also organises free of charge educational visits to the farm. Groups must have at least eight people in them and vists are especially aimed at schools.

*The open day is part of Farm Sunday. Farms all over the UK are organising similar events, and for more details visit the web site.
