Humber Colts Presentation Evening

celebrated a superb first year as a football club at their presentation night in the Humber Keel.

Players, supporters and friends gathered to revel in a season which saw them win promotion from Division Five Wyke of the Hull Men’s Sunday League.

Without even a ground when the club was founded last summer, Swinemoor Estate side the Colts now have an established base, training facilities and equipment, and are preparing to put coaches and players through a number of courses aimed at building on the solid foundations of this season.

Also present at the evening were a number of people without whom the progress of the club would not have been possible, along with new Mayor of Beverley .

Ian Sagar and Les Ford represented the Beverley Lions, whose grant will go towards football coaching badges and first aid courses. Councillor Brian Brooks represented the town council, who also provided the Colts with a much-needed grant.

They were joined by councillor Gary Shores, of East Riding Council, and Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, both of whom played important roles in securing the club their ground, as well as Carol Marwood, of Stepping Stones Nursery, Grovehill Road, who gave the Colts use of their minibus for away matches.

Also present was Theresa Rogerson, headmistress at St John’s Primary School, Wilberforce Crescent, who have provided training facilities for the Colts.

Although there were many different awards, the main footballing awards went to goalkeeper Luke Coxon, who won the Players’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Year awards, while Michael Claxton won the award for being top goalscorer, with 17 goals.

The players were presented with a team trophy, and also received an unexpected team award from Carol Marwood and Keith Hardy in recognition of their efforts and in raising the profile of Swinemoor Estate.

Humber Colts chairman and Humber Keel landlord said it was important all those who had helped the club were invited to the awards night and their efforts recognised.

He added: “It was only right to invite all the people who have done so much to put us on the map. Without them it would not have been possible.

“It has been a phenomenal first season, where we have come from nothing to being the most successful Sunday league club in Beverley for the season.

“I’d like to say well done and congratulations to everyone involved and wish everyone good luck for the future.”
