MKM Heart Challenge Raises over £9,000 for the British Heart Foundation

Hull firm, MKM, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of building materials, has celebrated the success of its recent Heart Challenge by presenting the British Heart foundation with a cheque for £9302.25 on Tuesday 11th May. The challenge, which saw teams from 36 MKM branches around the UK lose a collective total of nearly one tonne in weight and 561 inches around the waist, took place between January and February 2010. The Beverley MKM branch topped all of the charts in the Heart Challenge and raised over £200 in total.

The MKM Heart Challenge was launched to help improve the health of employees whilst raising money for charity. Each team member that took part set individual health goals such as losing weight, reducing blood pressure, stopping smoking and taking more exercise. The participants’ BMI, blood pressure, weight and hip to waist ratio was measured every week and the results were charted so individual branches could see how they were performing compared to others.

MKM’s Beverley Branch Director, Andy Beet, presented the British Heart Foundation’s Fundraising Volunteer Manager, Lucy Watson, with the sponsorship funds and is delighted with his team’s success: “The MKM Heart Challenge was a great team building exercise and we received lots of encouragement from our customers! The British Heart Foundation is a great cause and we thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition.”

Lucy comments:  “I would like to say a big thank you to MKM for raising a fantastic £9302.25 in support of the British Heart Foundation by taking part in the MKM Heart Challenge.  Heart Disease is still the nation’s biggest killer so it was great to hear that teams of employees competed in the challenge, aiming to improve their health and fitness.  A huge amount of effort went into organising the Challenge amongst the branches and I would like to say thank you to all those involved as all the money raised will make a real difference to those affected by heart disease.”

David Kilburn, Chief Executive of MKM comments: “At MKM we are committed to investing in the community and thought the Heart Challenge would be a great way to help promote healthy lifestyles and staying active – both with our staff and customers. It was great to see so many of our staff members take part.”
