New Competition Invites Entries from Beverley

A new drama and musical festival is to be staged this summer targeting up to the age of 18 across East Yorkshire, and entries from the Beverley area are being sought.

Stage 2010 will be held at Hull’s Freedom Centre from Thursday 8-Saturday 10 July and the organisers have lined up a range of open classes where young people aged seven to 18 can enter, compete and showcase their talents

Geoff Groom from the Freedom Centre says:

“It’s a new fixture on the calendar for speech and drama in Hull and East Yorkshire and there is such a wide range of classes to appeal to performing arts students. The Festival will be adjudicated  by industry professionals and the winners will have the chance to take part in a “Champion of Champions” event.

“It would be great to attract youngsters from across the region, particularly those who have been doing school plays, Rock Challenge or recent youth theatre productions,  and for them to enjoy a some extra end-of-term competition excitement. We’re looking for entrants from across East Yorkshire and I look forward to seeing lots of talented youngsters from Beverley and surrounding areas.”

There are 37 classes in total covering the age ranges.

For 7-11 years – Key Stage 2: Poetry and verse speaking, acting, dualogues, devised pieces of original work and musical theatre for individuals, duos and groups;

For 11-16 years – Key Stages 3 and 4: Poetry set pieces, storytelling, acting, dualogues, group drama and musical theatre, plus Classical Speech (pre-1960);
