Have Your Say: Local Development Framework

Now is your chance to get involved in shaping the future development of the East Riding – as the council prepares a blueprint known as the Local Development Framework (LDF).

The LDF will form part of the development plan for the East Riding and will be used to determine where and how we should build new places for people to live and work in. It will set out planning policies and proposals on a range of issues from where new houses, jobs and shops will go to how we should protect our countryside from inappropriate development. It will guide planning applications and development proposals for the next 15 years.  However, this is not about what the council wants, it is about how we as planners can help your communities. This is why your involvement is absolutely crucial.

The LDF is a portfolio of documents – each document is known as a Development Plan Document or DPD. Preparing a DPD is a long process which includes a number of chances for the public to get involved and have their say on how the East Riding should develop.

The council is currently consulting on 2 documents: the Preferred Approach Core Strategy and a Potential Sites Consultation on the Allocations DPD.

The Core Strategy

The Core Strategy will set the key elements of the planning framework for the East Riding.  It will set out a strategic overview of where and how much development will occur for housing, economic development, retail and transport schemes. It will identify places in our largest settlements for significant growth.

This Preferred Approach Consultation is the second consultation on the Core Strategy. We previously asked you what issues were important in the East Riding and have used the responses to inform this draft document.

The Allocations DPD

The Allocations DPD will show which specific pieces of land will be used for particular development purposes such as housing. We are currently undertaking the first consultation on this document – the Potential Sites Consultation. We want to know which of the sites that have been suggested to us are most suitable for development.
