Tanners Close in on Title

Hodgsons FC have gone back to the top of the County Premier League after a convincing 4-1 victory over Howden Amateurs.

On a hot sunny afternoon, played on the 3G surface at Longcroft school, Hodgsons FC dominated the early exchanges. It took just 2 minutes for the deadlock to be broken when Danny Cartwright finished well after a mazy run, carving his way through the Howden midfield and defense as it they weren’t there.

Chances came and went for the tanners, Cartwright coming close again with an audacious attempt, and Adam Foster and Stew Scott both having shots saved.

A second goal was scored by the clubs leading marksman, Adam Foster, to put the tanners 2 goals to the good at half time.

Foster had Atkinson to thank for his goal, as it was Atkinson who played Foster through from inside his own box! Atkinson, who was in goal, was standing in for the injured Matt Dexter and Vinnie Fleming, and he performed fantastically.

The second half was a much quieter affair with both sides perhaps enjoying the sunshine more than the football!

Foster and Cartwright sealed the victory for Hodgsons, both completing a brace a piece.

Howden scored nothing more than a consolation goal.

Hodgsons have now completed all there home fixtures. With just 3 matches to play, 3 wins would be enough to clinch the Premier League title. Starting with Sculcoates Amateurs Reserves on Sat 17th April.

Hodgsons also have the Senior Country Cup Semi-Final to look forward to on the 22nd April Thursday which is to be played at Allottment Lane , Driffield. The opponents being Bridlington Sports Club from the Humber League Division 1.

The club has progressed from County League Division 5 all the way to the County Premier League and we now find ourselves in a position to win it, and we will feature in a cup -semi final. We have never finished below 4th position since we formed in 2004/2005, it really is a fantastic achievement.”
