The first half was a non event with both sides cancelling each other out, the second however was full of twists and turns. Mill Lane United took the lead when opened the scoring; it looked to be enough though some sloppy defending let in Jordon Dexter to level the tie with just 15 minutes remaining.

As the light faded and the rain came down the match looked to be heading for penalties. Hodgsons FC who rested a number of first team regulars had a shout for a penalty turned down when the Dexter went over in the box.

This was not meant to be for Hodgsons FC, Mill Lane United broke and Asa Parode scored to restore the lead for Mill Lane United. The Tanners tried to get level with a late chance falling to after some good work, Grantham cut into the box only to see his shot go wide with minutes to go.

Player manager Terry Jackson said after the game;

“We knew this would be a tough game, Hodgsons are a strong team and we were looking forward to playing them in a competitive game. We certainly deserved to win on the night, I of course was delighted to score though Asa Parode deserves a special mention for nodding in the winner.”

Mill Lane United who have a mixed season so far will certainly enjoy this win, Hodgsons FC on the other hand, by their own admission are totally focused on the league and earning promotion.
