The Proclaimers to Play at Beverley Festival

Beverley Festival once again comes up trumps as it starts to announce it headline acts that will appear in the town.

This year’s event has a truly Scottish theme with the dynamic fiddle playing of Blazin’ Fiddles, and hit makers The Proclaimers, who will finish off the festival on the Sunday night in its traditional fiery style. To launch the festival on the Friday night will be the lead singer of the former Scottish acoustic pop group Fairground Attraction, Eddi Reader.

The festival is well known for bringing top artists to the small, historic, East Yorkshire market town of Beverley. The Proclaimers will be no exception. Strikingly individual, the twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid have over the years enjoyed huge success across the globe as the emotional honesty, political fire, wit and sing-along raucousness of their songs and their extensive touring has enlightened and entertained fans new and old.

They have carved out a niche for themselves in the netherworld where pop, folk, new wave and punk collide. In the process they have enjoyed Gold and Platinum singles and albums in UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The festival now welcomes them to Yorkshire!

With the General Elections due to precede the festival, who better to return again to lighten our spirits, as one of the event’s most popular acts , Roy Bailey and Tony Benn. Other festival favourites, returning for the third time will be the legendary band, famous for its hit record with The Floral Dance, The Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.

Festival organisers and audiences alike will be delighted by the performance this year of the Demon Barber Roadshow, bringing English traditional song and dance to a broad audience of all ages. Martin Simpson will be back with his trio, having won the BBC Radio 2 Award for Best Traditional Song.

And making sure we don’t go to bed with a heavy heart will be hospital radio spoof DJ Ivan Brackenbury, guaranteed to bring a smile to us all.

From the USA comes the king of Old Time Fiddle playing Bruce Molsky, Blues and Gospel maestro Spencer Bohren,  and fellow countryman New York City’s angriest yodelling banjo player Curtis Eller!

They will all be participating in this year’s special Americana mini-fest over the weekend. From closer to home come some of this countries finest young female artists, The Anna Massie Band from Scotland and Belinda O’Hooley & Heidi Tidow from neighbouring West Yorkshire.  In addition, many other great artists will be joining them and heading to the historic market town of Beverley this June to make the festival a must for all music lovers.

With the “Festival Village” becoming increasingly popular as a green field location adjacent to the campsite and main concert venue, and with demands to expand the number of events within it, this year sees the arrival of a new Alternative Marquee which will include a top programme of comedy and the spoken word as well as hosting acoustic sessions.

In addition to the new marquee the Family and Youth events will see a greater expansion and the festival favourite Wold Top Marquee will be back again to host the Late Night Festival Club and concerts and featuring our popular local Wold Top Festival Ale.

A great line up, with many more artists still to be announced in its regularly innovative and eclectic programming. A festival that offers one of the most friendly and relaxed atmospheres of all the Summer festivals – not to be missed..

‘Festival Village’ Campsite
Based in the grounds of Beverley Leisure Complex and within easy walking distance of the town and all the festival venues, the festival campsite visitors will benefit from the fantastic facilities in the Leisure Complex – clean, hot showers, toilet and bay changing facilities. You can even pay to take the children for a morning swim!

The campsite is equipped with additional free showers, toilets, portaloos and disabled facilities.

‘Long Lane’ Site
The Long Lane site is our NEW quiet campsite and is ideal for those wishing to get away from the festival for an hour or two to enjoy a quiet period, ready to go back revitalised!
The new site is a 15 minute walk away from the Leisure Complex. Alternatively, campers can take a shuttle bus that will be laid on specially for them
