Festival of Christmas Attracts Massive Crowds

The Beverley Christmas Festival was a great success 1000’s of people came to enjoy a wide range of live street acts, bands and to shop at the special Christmas Market with many traders dressing in Victorian costumes. The Beverley Lions were at where people were invited for a small donation to light a candle for a loved one.

This year’s Beverley Festival of Christmas, was a resounding success, the best ever, attracting huge numbers of visitors and residents to the town centre. It is difficult to estimate the numbers although some sources said in excess of fifty thousand. This year a visitor survey was undertaken and it is a fact that at least six thousand people passed those conducting the survey, every ten minutes.

It is hoped that statistics from that survey will be released later but the value to the economy is expected to be considerable.

John Bird the Chairman of the Festival said “that he was very proud of the achievement of  all those involved  and was delighted with the end result. The weather was kind and the the atmosphere was happy and festive,  the crowds enjoying the varied and excellent entertainments that were on offer.”

“The  features that make this Festival stand out from what else is on offer  said John are  the sheer  quality and variety of the market  stalls and the involvement of so many community groups and organisations who perform for the delight of the crowds.”

“I would  like to thank, the ; The Council; all those who have helped in any way to make the event a success; those retailers  organisations  and companies, who have  made donations; and last but by no means least my committee not just this for year but for  the fifteen years in which we have staged this Festival.”

The date for next year’s Festival is expected to be Sunday the 12th December.
