A History of Photography

A History of Photography Beverley Treasure House

The latest exhibition at the Beverley , is a touring exhibition entitled ‘A History of Photography,’ which has been organised by the Julia Margaret Cameron Trust, with costume and accessories from the East Riding Museums Service.

Dr Brian Hinton, curator of the Julia Margaret Cameron Trust, said: “The photographs on display provide two concurrent chronologies – the progress of Western civilisation over the last 150 years, and matching developments in aesthetic taste and photographic techniques.”

There are many images in this exhibition that are iconic – historic photographs that give us an insight into the individual and their lives, and contemporary images that provoke a very personal response.

East Riding Museums have placed alongside this exhibition some of their costume collection, focusing on a similar time span and development in dress.

The exhibition runs from 24 October to 5 December.  Admission is free.

The Treasure House is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9.30am – 5pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9.30am – 8pm, and Saturday 9am – 4pm.
