Mayor of Beverley

The title of dates back to 1573 when Queen Elizabeth I incorporated the town by the name “The Mayor, Governors and Burgesses of the Town of Beverley”.

The first Mayor of Beverley was Edward Ellerker in 1573.

The current Mayor is David K Elvidge, Beverley born and the youngest of six children.  He was educated at St Mary’s School for Boys and Longcroft Secondary School, followed by an apprentice training programme in vehicle mechanics at Beverley College (now ).  He currently works at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield as a Quality Manager. In what spare time he has left he plays Highland Bagpipes with The Beverley & District Pipe Band, www.bevpipeband.com.

David K Elvidge lives with his partner Janet, who is also a life-long Beverlonian, has a sixteen year old son called Alex and two cats called Munch and Jess. He can also be seen sometimes on a 1997 Harley Davidson “Fatboy”.

David’s great grandfather who came from Beverley Parks, 22 years in the Hussars after retiring he became a Policeman in Woodmansey, Thomas Elvidge (left)  Davids grandfather another Thomas Elvidge, he’s on the right heading off to WWI, he joined the Army Service Corps. (Right)
